EXCLUSIVE interview of Gulshan Devaiah and Amit Sadh for 'Duranga Season 2'

Gulshan Devaiah and Amit Sadh are gearing up for season two of Duranga. There were a lot of twists and turns in season one as it offered a world of serial killers and spine-chilling characters. What does season two have in store for fans and critics? Will it be better or fall short? While speaking exclusively to Firstpost, both the actors spoke about the preparation they did for the series and revealed a lot more about the show and the world it has created Edited excerpts from the interview Gulshan, Amit, how did you both prepare for your respective characters in Duranga season 2 . Gulshan: A lot of the character traits were already there before shooting season one so there are no changes or new aspects, it’s just the continuation of that story. It was more like a revision work. Amit: The most important part was to understand the physicality and emotional depth of the character, and one crucial part was to harness the shape of the spine because I thought, it was about being 14 years in coma. I worked on my body language that is fundamental in conveying a character’s emotions and intentions. Another amazing aspect was the complex motivations. Samit Patel is a character shrouded in mystery, and all these made things very compelling and interesting. What I also discovered about this character was that he was so childlike. Gulshan, how much do you feel the character has shades of your own personality. To some extent. There are building blocks, always, to who you are, and you can interpret certain situations. No matter how hard you try, certain aspects of your personality do come into play, sometimes we are concisions of it, sometimes unconscious. I’ve not had a terribly traumatic life like Abhishek, which is my character, so I don’t think it’s relatable. But as I said, certain mannerisms or my voice could be similar but our lives are very different. Amit, how complex is your character in season two as compared to part one. I did a lot of research and brought a lot of imagination to it to understand the intricacies of his mental state. I was totally immersed into this character’s psyche and personal challenges. There are moments on the show when you feel the characters’ darkness are unnerving. That’s the journey an actor takes, this is what I want to do in the space of life. It’s dangerous at times but fun. Gulshan, which has been the most exciting phase of your career. 2011, because that was my first year, and I don’t think anything comes close to it. That’s the first time you see yourself on the big screen, on the billboard. Nothing matters about how much money you make, how many fans you have, your debut is the greatest phase of your career. 2022-2023 were also very special because I had three hits- Duranga, Dahaad , and _Guns and Gulaabs_ . Amit, tell me something about that OTT boom that has happened in the last five years. At the end of the day, I want my audience to be thoroughly entertained and be engaged in what I’m bringing. OTT has created this huge dimension and it has great significance and place now in the entertainment business. I’ve had a few releases on OTT so far and they all did so well. We just want to make great stories in any format. These are exciting times for all of us.
