In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Firstpost, Runa Greiner and Justus Riesner talk about ‘Maxton Hall Season 2’ by avoiding any spoilers, their connection with India and the challenges of the role and more.
Edited excerpts from the interview:
What was the preparation for the role like?
Runa: For me it was quite easy. I had read the books as well as the scripts. I have a lot of things in common with my character. It did not take me much time to get into the character and the project.
Justus: We were aware of what we were getting into, we were aware of the internal lives of the characters. We were able to get into the nerves of the show that we had built in the first season and play the characters again.
How much have the characters evolved from the first season?
Justus: I think my character has, throughout the first season, learned how to draw a line and a boundary, especially in terms of a relationship. He is not willing to change himself for anyone. The one thing that my character has realised is that he can stay true to himself. He’s not going to make himself look small for everyone.
Runa: She’s very empathetic especially in the first season. She really takes care of everyone right from her family to her sister. But in the second season, she has started looking after herself a lot and does things for her own good. She also stands up for herself, and that is how she evolves.
What was the most challenging aspect of the series for the two of you?
Justus: For me, it was quite interesting because it was quite a contradictory character. He’s the sass queen but also carries an emotional compass of his friend group. He helps everyone in fighting their emotions, but he has issues channelling his own emotions. He can be a bit rowdy, physical and violent. It was difficult and challenging for me to travel through that physical element of my character.
Runa: We get to see ample of emotions in season one I would say. Anything that has to do with emotions is challenging. But playing this character was not challenging at all. It felt like the easiest thing because of the way it has evolved.
How much are the two of you accustomed to Bollywood or Hindi cinema? Any star that you would like to work with or any Indian film that you have watched?
**Runa:**I have lived in Indonesia for three and a half years. And Bollywood music and songs are very popular over there. I loved watching Bollywood movies with my friends over there. I have heard the song Teri Meri Meri Teri (from Bodyguard). This song has been stuck in my head for years. This is the connect that I have with Bollywood and Indian movies.
Justus: I have to admit I don’t have a huge connection with Bollywood or Indian movies. But I would love to tap into that a little more. I know of the Indian American filmmaker called Dev Patel who just had his directorial debut last year. It was very intense and an impressive style of filmmaking.
