Huma Qureshi is set for Mithya: The Darker Chapter that is soon going to be streaming on Zee5. And in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, even spoke about it.
Edited excerpts from the interview:
The book that you write in Mithya is called Dhund and that also happens to be the name of your next project you have been working on. So is it a coincidence?
No, in the show, the book that I write is called. Dhunf The post that I did was a teaser. It’s basically a very important character in the show. And a lot of things that are written in the book that I have written are important to the plot of the show.
Also, talking about the concept of the show, the narrative of the first season, I think the battle between originality and plagiarism is something that has been going on for ages, especially in Hindi cinema. And some people say that there is nothing like original. What are your thoughts on this?
Everything else is derivative. But having said that I think, you know, of course, it’s very nice to be inspired. It’s very nice to look around you and to get inspired by other people’s work. But copying is not good. Copying is not nice. Because it’s on the Internet. I want difficult to crack attract these things rather. I don’t think we can do that anymore.
How did you prepare for your character of Juhi? How was the prep like for you?
I went to season 1. I put in more time to understand how she was and who she was. By the time I started doing season 2, she was already in my bones. So I didn’t have to put in that kind of physical time. I think for me, the important thing is to make her this really cool Hindi professor when she goes to work. But at the same time, it’s not a cliché of what a Hindi professor will be in cinema. I had some really cool teachers like that when I have grown up. So I wanted to sort of kind of base it on that.
Also, what makes Juhi think or declare that Ria’s essay is plagiarized? Is it her experience as a Hindi teacher? Is it her gut feeling? What exactly is it?
No. In season 1, she Ria did plagiarize. And Ria has evidence to back it. But I think in that, Ria was using the plagiarism. I think she almost planted it because she knew Juhi would behave like this. She knew she would react. She knew no matter what the odds were, she will take her neck out to the right thing to do. That meant even losing her job. But she I don’t think Juhi ever expected Riya to take it to such low levels. And the leader of course, we realized they’re not even, like, just such a huge professor relation with the impact sisters.
Also, this is Avantika’s debut, and I really enjoyed the face off between you and her right from the first episode till the last. So how was it like to do all those things with her?
I think the question is more for her. Then for me, I had a lot of fun working with her. I think she’s a very, very dedicated actor. She works very hard. And even because she’s new, but there’s a lot of hunger, I want to constantly give you her best shot, and I really appreciate and admire that.
And I want to ask you, which was your toughest and your most favorite scene from season 1? Because there are so many scenes where we see that you have emotional breakdowns. There are so many scenes that see Juhi’s struggling.
My favorite would be I think there’s a library scene. There’s a face off between me and Avantika. That’s my favorite scene. Not a scene in which I after that, I get arrested and I and I’m walked away as a walk of shame, with the, you know, arresting me from my own college. I think that these 2 have would be my highlights.
