In Raj and DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video IN, actor Kashvi plays Nadia, the younger version of Priyanka Chopra who played the smouldering spy agent in the Hollywood version of the show. After a long time, a child’s adult-like behaviour doesn’t reek of pretense. Given the charisma the actress exuded in the show, her childhood confidence feels earned and not erratic.
In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Kashvi opened up on a lot of things about working with Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the director duo, and her love for Dubai.
Edited excerpts from the interview
How did the role come to you?
Actually it was Mukesh Chhabra who identified my talent and he was the one who told me to give an audition. It was the first ever audition I gave it and didn’t even know what an audition meant. I then had to memorize the script and act it out, and that’s how I got to play Nadia. I’m very thankful to Mukesh Chhabra’s team.
What was the preparation for you like? Which has been your most challenging scene from the show?
You’ll actually be surprised that I actually didn’t know any preparation for this show except for like one or two workshops just to go through the script with Mukesh Chhabra’s team.
Which was the most challenging scene for you?
I didn’t really have any challenging scene but there was this one scene where I had to ask my on-screen mom like an agent, like James Bond. That was the day I didn’t get enough sleep as I was flying to Mumbai and too busy watching entertainment on the flight so I didn’t get to sleep the whole night. I had to report directly to the set after I landed at the airport.
So I was like all sleepy kind of thing, but I would like to share a really funny scene. It was not supposed to be funny in the show but it was really funny for me. I was a big fan of Varun Dhawan and his dancing, so on the first day of shoot with him, when he came to me and told me he was my father, I would just be laughing. And everyone on the sets was laughing at me because they all knew I was a big fan of Varun Dhawan.
What was your experience like working with Raj and DK?
It was really, really, really really special experience working with Raj and DK. I feel lucky and fortunate that I got the opportunity to start my journey with these directors. They have been super duper nice to me. They were playing fun games in between shots, they were giving me hugs. They never wanted me to act, they asked me to be natural.
The directors were intelligent and so passionate about what they were doing even in the smallest of details. Everything has to be correct when they are making something. And who can forget how nice they are!
**What was the most memorable incident that happened behind the scenes?**There was a scene where I was climbing a new-storey roof and I really enjoyed that one, I loved it. There was another memorable incident of mine where I was dancing with all the cast and crew. And of course when Saqib Saleem took me to the gym and we had some fun workouts, and my other co actors who’s fighting me.
Living in Dubai, do you miss India?
I love Dubai but I do miss living in India. Whenever you work on the streets of India, you can smell that traditional food like Paav Bhaji and chaat and other stuff. The most that I miss is the entertainment industry set because when I was there, shooting for my show, I just felt like I belonged there. All I did was being myself.
Do you want to become an actress?
I do want to become an actress when I grow up. I want to become a global star. My first step into becoming an actress is with a global show. I look forward to many more.
