Actor-filmmaker-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, who is currently busy in the promotions of her directorial Emergency based on the life of late former PM Indira Gandhi, reacted to Jaya Bachchan’s outburst in the Parliament when she was called Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.

“This is a very shameful thing that today, the beautiful differences between a man and a woman, as made by nature, is looked at as discrimination,” said the Manikarnika actress in an interview with Fever FM.

“A man is a man, and a woman is a woman, and togetherness is a beautiful happening. These are petty issues. In the name of feminism, people are going in an ugly direction… Society is going into an ugly direction,” the actress added. Calling Jaya’s behaviour as ‘arrogance’, Kangana asserted, “This arrogance hasn’t spared even the beautiful bond within families. Humans should embrace each other and not dissect each other with this sort of harshness. People are simply flaring up with the name coming up like they’re getting a panic attack or something. And when they say, ‘My identity is taken over, I am destroyed’ I just feel sad.”

Recently, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar during the ongoing monsoon session addressed the actress by her husband’s name. Jaya responded,  “Sir, I hope you know the meaning of Amitabh. I mean, I am proud of the association with my marriage and my husband and of his achievements. But this is a new drama started by you all. This did not use to happen before.”

The VP informed the actress that there is a provision to change the name on the election certificate and reminded her that the “entire country is proud” of her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s achievements. “However, Jaya Ji, the name that appears in the election certificate is what is used, and you can get the name changed; there is a provision for that,” he added.
