Eddie Murphy to return as Prince Akeem in Coming to America sequel; film will release on 7 August 2020

Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America long awaited sequel has landed a summer 2020 release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount announced Monday that the film will hit theatres on 7 August next year. Image from Twitter @DiscussingFilm[/caption] Craig Brewer is directing the follow-up to the 1988 comedy helmed by John Landis for Paramount. The currently untitled movie will see Murphy reprise his role of Prince Akeem. Black-ish creator Kenya Barris wrote the most recent draft of the sequel. The plot would see Akeem learning about a long-lost son and returning to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda. Besides Murphy, the original cast also included Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley and John Amos. Hall played Akeem’s friend Semmi. Murphy is producing alongside Kevin Misher, while Barris is executive producing. Brewer and Murphy are also working on the Netflix film Dolemite Is My Name,  based on the life of Rudy Ray Moore, star of blaxploitation Dolemite films. (With inputs from Press Trust of India)
