. Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War, where he dematerialised into dust. He used the phrase “endgame” in a conversation with Iron Man after giving Thanos the Time Stone, a phrase that has inspired the title of the final film of the Marvel franchise, Avengers: Endgame. Created by artist Steve Ditko and writer Stan Lee, Doctor Strange first appeared in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. The 2016 film, also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton, was written by Derrickson, along with C Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts.
