Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson will reportedly return to helm sequel of Benedict Cumberbatch's film

Scott Derrickson has been brought on board for a sequel to Disney-Marvel’s Doctor Strange, informed The Hollywood Reporter. The director had steered the 2016 outing for the Marvel superhero. Twitter/@iempomuerto, daleplay[/caption] Benedict Cumberbatch is expected to reprise his role as Doctor Strange, along with Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams, who played Stephen Strange’s right-hand man, Wong, and his romantic-interest respectively. Although Marvel chief Kevin Feige is yet to confirm the news, the follow-up to Doctor Strange is expected to go on floors in 2020 and hit the screens in May 2021, according to comicbook.com. Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War, where he dematerialised into dust. He used the phrase “endgame” in a conversation with Iron Man after giving Thanos the Time Stone, a phrase that has inspired the title of the final film of the Marvel franchise, Avengers: Endgame. Created by artist Steve Ditko and writer Stan Lee, Doctor Strange first appeared in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. The 2016 film, also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton, was written by Derrickson, along with C Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts.
