Christopher Nolan-directed Oppenheimer created a lot of buzz ever since it was released last year. Having already won a lot of major awards this season, the film now looks forward to continuing its winning streak with the upcoming 96th Academy Awards. The film has several major nominations including in some prestigious categories like the Best Actor and Best Director.
Made on a budget of $100 million, _Oppenheimer_ earned over $900 million at the global box office, which nearly stands at Rs 8,000 crore. Following the massive success of Oppenheimer, a fresh report suggests that Christopher Nolan earned $72 million i.e., Rs 595 crore for the success of his last film.
According to a Forbes report, Nolan eventually earned around $85 million for the film; however, after deducting the fees for his lawyers and agents, the figure came down to $72 million.
The publication also reported that Universal even agreed to offer the award-winning filmmaker “15 per cent of the first dollar gross” of Oppenheimer, thus suggesting that Nolan received a share of every penny that the movie earned before the studio recovered its expenses. While Nolan’s initial ask is said to be 20 per cent, it was later reduced to 15 per cent and the remaining portion went to the producer and Nolan’s wife Emma Thomas.
Notably, this comes just a few days after Tom Cruise also got around 12.5 per cent of first dollar gross for his last release, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which was released a few days before Oppenheimer.
