Indian actress, producer, and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza marked her birthday this year not with a glamorous celebration, but with a powerful reminder of why she remains one of India’s most influential voices for the planet. As wishes poured in from across the film industry, Dia took to social media to share a meaningful video from her latest initiative with Project Mumbai, highlighting her continued dedication to sustainability and climate action. Dia celebrated her birthday on December 9.
The video offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her participation as Chief Guest at Project Mumbai’s Zero Waste Schools Sustainability Mela 2025. Held during Mumbai Climate Week, the event united hundreds of schoolchildren, teachers, and community members under the theme Youth for a Climate-Resilient Mumbai. The mela served as a hands-on, immersive platform where young participants explored innovative ideas on waste management, recycling systems, and eco-friendly living practices.
In the Instagram video, Dia is seen interacting with enthusiastic young climate champions. While addressing them, she recalled a powerful lesson from her mentor, environmentalist Bittu Sehgal.
“My mentor Bittu Sehgal always tells me there are only two political parties in this world,” she said. “The bacha party and the buddha party. And the buddha party has made some big mistakes. So who is going to be the conscience of the buddha party? You’re absolutely right - it’s the bacha party.”
Her words resonated with the children, emphasizing the idea that the younger generation holds the power to reshape environmental consciousness. She added warmly, “Never ever forget that I am internally a part of the bacha party, and I’m always rooting for you. I’m always walking this path with you in love and in humility.”
