Dhurandhar: Ranveer Singh plays Major Mohit Sharma, Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal- The real life characters that inspired director Aditya Dhar

Amidst unforgettable fan frenzy, the highly anticipated trailer of multi-starrer Dhurandhar was launched recently at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai today.

Based on true-life events and tipped as the biggest and boldest release to close out 2025, the film is a pulse-pounding look into the high-stakes world of covert operatives, where every decision is a matter of life and death, and the battle for the nation is fought in the shadows.

National Award-winning director Aditya Dhar, the director of Uri: The Surgical Strike, brings an epic saga commanding an unparalleled cast, headlined by Ranveer Singh in his deadliest avatar yet, alongside an ensemble of cinematic heavyweights: Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, with a compelling debut by Sara Arjun.

Who is playing what?

Ranveer Singh: Major Mohit Sharma

Major Mohit Sharma was the man who had infiltrated the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist group under the alias ‘Iftikhar Bhat’ during a secret mission and was awarded the Ashok Chakra for his bravery. He was martyred Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir.

Arjun Rampal: Major Iqbal Khan

Major Iqbal was known as the Angel Of Death as shown in the trailer. The character is based on Ilyas Kashmiri. His name was involved in many terror strikes in India as per reports. It has also been reported he died in a US drone attack in Pakistan back in 2011.

Akshaye Khanna- Rehman Dakait ala Apex Predator 

Khanna has chewed up the scenery with his deliciously wicked and twisted performance in the trailer. He essays the role of Rehman Dakait, one of the most notorious criminals of Karachi. Dakait was killed in a police encounter led by Superintendent of Police Chaudhary Aslam Khan in Karachi’s Steel Town area in 2009.

Sanjay Dutt: SP Chaudhary Aslam

The character is reportedly based on Chaudhry Aslam, one of Pakistan’s top cops and encounter specialists. He died in a bomb blast in 2014 that was claimed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

R Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal

Madhavan’s character bears striking resemblance to Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor and former Intelligence Bureau (IB) director. This is the same character Paresh Rawal essayed in Dhar’s URI.
