Dhak Dhak movie review: Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh & team take you on a delightful & adventurous road trip

Cast: Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza, Sanjana Sanghi

Director: Tarun Dudeja

Language: Hindi with a little bit of Punjabi

Safar zaruri hai ya manzil? Well, this question is relatable to almost every person in the universe. While achieving your goal or reaching your destination makes you a hero among your family or loved ones, journey is a phase, which leads to self-discovery and a strive to create your self-identity. And director Tarun Dudeja’s Dhak Dhak explores this philosophy or rather a fact in a heartwarming way.

Talking about the plot, SKY aka Shashi Kumari Yadav (Fatima Sana Shaikh) is an influencer and YouTuber, who is a pro in making content on automobiles and gadgets. While she portrays herself to be a strong person, she is vulnerable and emotionally weak because of a tragic incident when her nude pics from her boyfriend and channel partner Shrey’s phone get leaked. Post this, she breaks up with him and handles the channel alone. Now, SKY’s goal is to make her self-identity by showcasing her impeccable work and she thinks Barcelona EXPO is the right platform for that.

She asks for a sponsorship from a firm’s CEO, who is impressed with her work but tells her that the audience needs a story and if she gives him that, Barcelona EXPO will be hers. While covering a motorbike stunt event, she meets a naive person, who seems to have a crush on her and from him, she comes to know about his 65-year-old grandmother, Manpreet Kaur Sethi aka Mahi ( Ratna Pathak Shah), who rides a bullet. She decides to interview her and during that time, Mahi tells SKY that her dream is to go to Khardung La in Leh, the highest motorable road in India by her bullet.

SKY pitches this story to the CEO and he tells her that if they complete this Delhi-Khardung La journey in 7 days, he will sponsor her EXPO. On the journey, the duo gets accompanied by Uzma (Dia Mirza), an on-road mechanic, who is known for jugaads. And the fourth person, who joins them is Manjari (Sanjana Sanghi) a simple conservative family, who has been kept in the protective shield by her single mother and relatives.

The four girls now take a trip of a lifetime on this adventurous journey, where they explore the true meaning of life by breaking all the shackles and discover their true passion, the importance of being themselves and crucial human traits.

Director Tarun Dudeja has weaved the story beautifully and conveyed his main point in the most amazing way. What I loved about his writing is that he gave every character a different layered of emotions along with relevance in several scenes, where the main protagonists can show their range of acting as performers.

Talking about the performances, all four lead stars have delivered one of their career-best acts so far. While Fatima shines after a long time with this meaty role, Dia Mirza emotes every emotion with ease and finesse. In fact, the helplessness of her character will resonate with most people. Ratna Pathak Shah is a treat on the silver screen. Whenever she is on the canvas, she will win your heart. Sanjana completely surrenders herself to the character of Manjari and gives a mature performance.

On the whole, Dhak Dhak is a film, filled with a lot of human emotions, which will make a special place in your heart.

Rating: 3.5 (out of 5 stars)
