Daredevil: Born Again, a revival and continuation of Daredevil, has been making headlines from its announcement to the gripping trailer. While the series promises to be a treat for MCU and Daredevil fans, let’s find out what the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again has for us in the store.
As we know, Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock (Charlie), is a blind lawyer with superhuman senses from Hell’s Kitchen who leads a double life as a masked vigilante and goes all out to save New York from dangerous situations.
The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again starts with a night sequence from Hell’s Kitchen where Matt, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Murdock’s friend and partner at the Nelson, Murdock & Page law firm and Foggy aka Franklin “Foggy” Nelson (Elden Henson), Matt’s best friend and law partner are having a party time until Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter aka Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) makes a sudden attack. A bullet hits Foggy and Matt turns Daredevil to fight Bullseye.
After removing Bullseye’s mast, Daredevil asks him the reason behind the attack. While he stays mum, Foggy dies, which leaves Matt and Karen shattered.
Post that, we see a leap of one year, where Matt has left the Daredevil costume and is focusing on his law career. He fights for Foggy in the court and wins the legal battle, which leads to Bullseye getting a lifetime imprisonment.
Now, the crime lord Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) is back and running for the election of New York’s Mayor. As he wins and gets elected for the prestigious position, what will be his intentions against the city and Daredevil?
Creators Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman and Chris Ord have filled the first two episodes with thrilling, intense and emotional moments. While Kingpin and Matt’s confrontation scenes are a treat for moviegoers, the latter’s scenes with Karen and Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), a therapist and Murdock’s love interest, show the emotional and human side of the lead protagonist.
Talking about the technical aspects, right from cinematography by Hillary Fyfe Spera and Pedro Gómez Millán to editing of Cedric Nairn-Smith, Melissa Lawson Cheung and Stephanie Filo, Daredevil: Born Again aces in every department.
While Charlie Cox is brilliant, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Margarita Levieva’s class act takes the series to another level.
The first two episodes of Daredevil Born Again have set the bars high. So, let’s hope the remaining ones live up to MCU fans’ expectations.
