Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif, both the actresses have been victims of the menace called Deepfake. Mandanna even wrote a long note after her fake video went viral on social media. And now, noted singer Chinmayi Sripaada, who predominantly works in South and has also lent voice for Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express, has spoken about the menace too. The singer shared a note on X where she spoke about how this new technology is being used as a weapon to blackmail and harass young girls and women. She wrote- “ Deepfake is going to be the next weapon, which is used by some people to target, harass and blackmail girls for extortion and rape. Their families living in a small village or town do not understand when honor is at stake.” She added, “I really hope that there is a nationwide awareness campaign that can be started immediately to make the general public aware of the dangers of deepfakes for girls and to report incidents instead of taking matters into their own hands.” Rashmika on her Deepfake video Taking to social media, the actress wrote- “My deepfake videos are being spread online. It pains me to talk about it and share it. To be honest, something like this is very scary not only for me but for each one of us who are in danger due to the misuse of this technology.” Action by Indian government Amid these incidents, the Indian government has issued a stern reminder to social media platforms regarding the punishment and penalties of this digital crime.
