The trailer of Emraan Hashmi's social drama Cheat India has been released. Hashmi plays a shrewd scamster in the film who fraudulently gets students into engineering and management colleges. He has a whole team of people who write exams on behalf of other candidates, and in the end, everyone gets what they want. Students can go to their dream college, people who need money write exams and get a taste of luxury, while Hashmi gets his cash.

The exam scam is a reflection of India's standardised education system. Although Hashmi's deeds affect millions of people, he maintains rather emphatically that he is only helping those in need. He does not consider his exam racket unlawful. He thinks it is a business and he is the Robin Hood of the education sector. In a bid to expose the loopholes in the education system, he becomes a part of it, too.

Directed by Soumik Sen, the film landed in a controversy earlier as filmmaker-actor duo Dinesh Gautam and Imran Zahid claimed the storyline of the film was copied from their movie titled Marksheet.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar’s Ellipsis Entertainment, and Emraan Hashmi Films, Cheat India is scheduled to release on 25 January, 2019.
