Cheat India makers remove tagline from posters, trailer after CBFC says it could 'mislead youngsters'

Roughly a month ahead of its release, Emraan Hashmi’s social drama Cheat India came under the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) scanner. The members of the CBFC objected to the tagline of the film, “Akal mein hi nakal hai,” and said it could be interpreted as promoting cheating, reports Mumbai Mirror. Therefore, they deemed the film unsuitable for television and theatres. Complying with CBFC’s directives, the producers have now snipped said line out of the trailer and posters to avoid further controversy. Tanuj Garg, one of the producers on the film, confirmed the development to the publication. He also clarified that the dialogue does not feature in the film, although there is a variation of the line spoke by Hashmi to his protégé. The film has also been granted a U/A certificate. Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Garg and Atul Kasbekar’s Ellipsis Entertainment, and Emraan Hashmi Films, Cheat India is scheduled to release on 25 January, 2019.
