Bandish Bandits Season 2’ review: Atul Kulkarni and Sheeba Chaddha are the stars of the show in Anand Tiwari’s ode to music

There has to be something about music and its ability to heal and haunt. We have been told that a broken heart exudes music. Which is why during the pandemic, when most of the filmmakers were exploring crime and violence, filmmaker, Anand Tiwari chose music in his interestingly titled Bandish Bandits which had an equally intriguing ensemble. Four years later, he returns with season two.

On the surface, the show is about people belonging to different walks of life and musical sensibilities coming together. But underneath that surface lie a lot of layers. The emotional complexities of the characters are hard to describe, especially when they sing to express their demons and strike a chord and connect with people. Joining the already established ensemble this time are Divya Dutta, Rohan Gurbaxani, Yashaswini Dayama, Aaliyah Qureshi, and Saurabh Nayyar. There’s Kunal Roy Kapur too, for what else but comic relief.

It’s always a pleasure watching seasoned performers sinking their teeth into the characters they have been given and this show is no different. Atul Kulkarni and Sheeba Chaddha are always a pleasure to watch. Ritwik and Shreya do the honors of delivering refined performances as well. Music is one genre that has not been accepted in India the way it should be. If this show had to exist as a film and release in Cinemas, it may not have been accepted by the audiences.

Good thing that it has been made as a web series because the entire team gives an opportunity to the viewers to immerse themselves in these people’s world. Tiwari, who also directed the ghastly _Bad Newz_ earlier this year, kind of redeems himself by going for a sequel to his show from 2020. This has been the year of sequels. How about assembling _Pushpa 2_ , _Stree 2_ , and Bandish Bandits 2 at a bar and make them talk about season 3!
