Director: Aditya Suhas Jambhale
Cast: Yami Gautam, Priyamani, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar
Set against the backdrop of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, Yami Gautam and Priyamani’s Article 370 has every element required for a complete box-office hit. Not making it look frivolous with mindless romance, dance and music, the film is thorough with its research and the impeccable performance of the entire cast makes it a must watch. Based on what happened in the Kashmir Valley since 2016, the movie has amazing visuals, the script is crisp and the performances of the actors are perfect.
No over-acting and drama, Article 370 is divided into six chapters spacing it with a real sequence of events and their reactions to it by the ruling political party, opposition party, the terrorists and not to forget the Kashmiri local people. The narrative is simple, yet intense and it untangles the complex Article 370 in a manner which makes it easy for everybody to understand. The film starts with the killing of Burhan Wani , a youngster who commands a terrorist organization and a popular figure in the Kashmir Valley. The film shows the unrest that followed in Kashmir after the killing of Burhan.
The PMO officer played by Priyamani’s performance is perfect to the core. A no-nonsense woman who handles each and every situation in a calm and composed manner. The movie then moves to the Pulwama terror attack which occurs in 2019 and the investigation starts as to who were the people behind it.
The intense performance of Yami Gautam as Zooni Haksar an intelligence field officer who gets grounded in Delhi after a botched encounter shows the different level of politics involved in the intelligence department too. She is labelled as arrogant by her superiors for taking timely decisions on the spot. National award-winning film director Aditya Suhas Jambhale has done a brilliant job by not overdoing the patriotism bit. The film is a compelling narrative that informs and engages without making it look like a history and civics lesson. Article 370 is a true story of Kashmir’s tortured history that had to be corrected and the maker of the film did complete justice to it!
