AR Rahman's bassist Mohini Dey on rumours linking her divorce to him: 'I’ve been getting a humongous amount of...'

Recently AR Rahman announced his separation from wife Saira Banu after 29 years of marriage. Hours after this, composer’s bassist Mohini Dey revealed her divorce from husband Mark Hurtsuch.

Soon, we saw the unnecessary connection between these announcements grabbed headlines across social media platforms.

Now, Mohini has dismissed these rumours through Instagram and urged for privacy. “I’ve been getting a humongous amount of requests for interviews, and I know exactly what it’s about. I have to respectfully turn each one down because I am not interested in fueling into ABSOLUTE BS," she wrote.

While Rahman’s legal team denied any connection, the composer’s son AR Ameen also reacted to the controversy, calling it baseless. He wrote on Instagram, “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumours being spread."

“Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy," he added.

“There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision independently,” lawyer Vandana Shah told Republic TV, Rahman’s legal representative. She denied the bassist’s involvement in the divorce of the music composer.

Amid the separation, an old interview of AR Rahman has surfaced online, where he spoke about how he met his wife. Talking to Nasreen Munni Kabir for her book A.R. Rahman: The Spirit of Music, he said, “In 1994, when I was about twenty-seven, I decided that it was time to get married. For some reason, I started to feel old. (smiles) My mother and my sister Fathima saw Saira for the first time at the shrine of the Sufi saint Moti Baba in Chennai. It was all very easy."
