In a statement after the verdict was pronounced, the filmmaker said it was a fake case the they would be appealing to the higher court

'Andaz Apna Apna' director Rajkumar Santoshi sentenced to two years imprisonment in cheque bouncing case, breaks silence on verdict

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who’s best known for directing films like Ghayal, Damini, Ghatak, Andaz Apna Apna, and was is set to direct Lahore 1947 with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment in a cheque bouncing case. A court in Jamnagar on Saturday, February 17 pronounced the verdict.

The complainant in question Ashok Lal gave a loan of Rs 1 crore to Santoshi to make a film and the filmmaker paid his money back via 10 Cheques of Rs 10 lacs. The cheques bounced in December 2016. It was only after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him that he made an appearance in the court.

In a statement to ETimes, Piyush Bhojani said, “There are 12 cases filed against Santoshi for cheque bouncing, each pertaining to a sum of Rs 10 lacs. This is a decade old case and despite repeated attempts to serve Santoshi with notices, he remained elusive.”

Santoshi breaks silence

The filmmaker said this was a false case and they would be appealing to the higher court.

Rajkumar Santoshi ’s next ‘Lahore 1947’ is one of the most talked about films. Ever since the film was announced, the excitement of the audience to know more about the film is soaring. As the film is all set to bring the never-seen-before trio of Sunny Deol, Rajkumar Santoshi, and Aamir Khan together, it will also see a powerful villain. The director Rajkumar Santoshi has roped in Abhimanyu Singh as the villain of Lahore 1947.

While speaking about the same Rajkumar Santoshi shared, “Usually, whenever we think of a villain’s character, the first few names that come to our mind are Amrish ji and Danny ji but we have to look forward and see who’s taking the baton ahead. Interestingly, we have roped in Abhimanyu Singh who will be seen playing a strong and lead role as antagonist in Lahore 1947. His intensity, his voice, and his conviction are truly unbeatable. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented actors we have in our industry.”
