Actor Sourav Das touches 'The Bengal Files' director Vivek Agnihotri's feet after distancing himself from the film

Set against the harrowing backdrop of Direct Action Day on 16th August 1946 in Calcutta, filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files marks the concluding chapter of his acclaimed truth-revealing trilogy after The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. While its teaser had already sent shockwaves across the nation, the release of the hard-hitting trailer left audiences stunned with its unflinching spirit of truth. Now, as the film’s release nears, advance bookings have begun.

And one of the actors, Sourav Das, who distanced himself from the film amid its controversy, touched Agnihotri’s feet in a video shared by Pinkvilla that showed the filmmaker giving a tour of his house.

Agnihotri said, “I have kept it right at the entry of the house because it’s one of my most prized possessions. This is now technically my second home, because we bought another house. I and my wife moved here in 2000 and lived here till 2024. My kids were also born in this home, and I am still very attached to this place. Even though we don’t live here, I kept the place as it is, and I still have all my meetings in this house.”

The filmmaker added, “This is my own painting. When I used to live in Delhi, I used to paint a lot, and I even used to sell them. I sold most of my paintings, but this remained here because my wife and kids like it a lot. I made it right here in this house, while my kids would be playing with the paints and getting it all over the walls."

Sourav Das on The Bengal Files controversy

“I knew about my character only. I was not aware of the script. That’s how work is done nowadays. It’s a very strong character that I was offered. And it’s a Hindi film where actors from all over the country have worked. I am nobody compared to the stars who have worked in the film.”
