Actor Aly Goni and his girlfriend Jasmin Bhasin paid a visit to Ankita Lokhande’s residence to celebrate the Ganpati festivities recently. In one video that has gone viral on social media, the actor didn’t chant ‘Ganpati Bappa Maurya’ and the video went viral with Goni receiving backlash.
In an interview with Fimigyan, the actor addressed the backlash and revealed, “I didn’t even realise it. I was lost in my thoughts. I never imagined something like this could create such a big issue. This was my first time attending Ganpati celebrations…I usually don’t go. I didn’t know what exactly I was supposed to do there, and I always worry that I might unintentionally do something wrong.”

He added, “It’s not allowed in my religion, hum puja nahi karte hai (we don’t pray). We have one belief – we offer namaz, we pray, and we respect all religions. It is written in the Quran that we must respect everyone, and I do.”
One user wrote- “If Aly Goni can enjoy the hospitality of a Ganesh puja, he should respect the sentiment too. Nobody asked him to convert — just to show courtesy at a Hindu festival. Selective secularism is the real insult here.”
Another one commented- “If you can’t respect the sentiment of the festival, then why attend it in the first place? Nobody forced you to chant, but proudly declaring “it’s not allowed in my religion” at a Ganpati celebration is sheer hypocrisy & insult. Don’t show up for photo-ops if you can’t honor the culture!”
And another said, “If they can’t say “Ganpati Bappa Morya” then why do Bollywood songs have “Allah”, “Khuda” etc. in their songs? We also have problem while singing those songs.”
