Not much has changed when it comes to films landing in controversies. Cinema may have evolved, but the troubles that surround the medium is just as intact, at times unnecessary. Here are some films that made headlines in recent times and made controversies:

Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’

The film became a commercial and critical success but the road to its release was not smooth. Before it made its way to the cinemas, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “The CBFC have asked for two cuts. Aamir Khan feels the film should be passed without these cuts. He and director R S Prasanna have made the film with a lot of thought. Certain scenes and dialogues, when seen in context, seem completely appropriate.”

“With Aamir Khan not accepting the cuts, the censor certificate wasn’t awarded to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir now plans to once again meet the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday and put forward his point of view. Hopefully, a solution will be achieved and the CBFC will pass the film on June 16. Once that’s done, the advance booking of the film will be thrown open. As per rules, cinemas can’t sell tickets in the absence of a censor certificate,” added the source.

Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Sardaar Ji 3’

Amid _Sardaar Ji 3_ controversy, The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had written a letter to the makers of Border 2 to remove Diljit Dosanjh from their war drama.

The actor-singer has been facing severe criticism casting for Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming movie Sardaar Ji 3. FWICE mentioned that it is “deeply disappointed" with the casting of Diljit Dosanjh in Border 2 in a letter to Bhushan Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director, T-Series, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta Producers, JP Films, and director Anurag Singh.

And now, veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has backed the singer in his recent statement. Akhtar was quoted saying, “What can the poor guy do now? The movie was shot earlier. He didn’t know something like this would happen. It’s not a Pakistani’s money that will be lost, it’s an Indian’s. So what’s the point?”

Abir Gulaal

Abir Gulaal, a Hindi film featuring Pakistani star Fawad Khan in the lead, will not be allowed to release in India in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, government sources said.

Directed by Aarti S Bagdi and also starring Vaani Kapoor, the movie was set to make its debut in Indian cinemas on May 9.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Panjab ‘95

The film, based on activist Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life and death, was supposed to be released in February. But the CBFC has asked for certain modifications and as many as 127 cuts, which means the fate of the film continues to hang in the balance.

Diljit wrote on his Instagram story earlier this year- “We are sorry, and it pains us to inform you that the movie Panjab ‘95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control.”
