In the past, we have seen many movies turning out to be a surprise hit on OTT after garnering desirable numbers at the box office. And the latest case is Kiran Rao’s directorial Laapataa Ladies, which has surpassed the viewership of Ranbir Kapoor starrer global blockbuster Animal.
The Aamir Khan production venture, which premiered on Netflix about a month ago garnered 13.8 million views and outperformed the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, which had got 13.6 million views in the first three weeks before dropping out of the top 10 in week four.
Laapataa Ladies, which stars, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in lead roles, has garnered tremendous popularity in the UK after its OTT debut. A user lauded the movie and said, “It’s become very popular in the UK. All my local friends loved it. They have only watched movies like Bahubali. So proud when they talk about Laapata ladies,” and another added, “That’s good. This movie deserves all the attention.”
Apart from the audience, Laapataa Ladies has also garnered love from celebs like Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra. While Alia lauded the film on her Instagram stories and wrote, “Such a wonderful time at the movies. These ladies, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel and gentlemen Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan truly have my heart. Such a beautiful film and what fabulous performances by the entire cast. Congratulations to all of you,” PeeCee posted on her Instagram stories, “Thank you for the entertainment and the education @raodyness!Congratulations on this make more movies!”
Talking about the review, Firstpost gave _Laapataa Ladies_ 4 stars and wrote, “The movie has messages for the world, but not one bit preachy. Laapataa Ladies is entertaining and engaging. It’s a mainstream film done with a twist.”
