History will be scripted at the staggering altitude of 16,452 ft as mobile theatre company PictureTime shall bring the Farhan Akhtar–starrer 120 Bahadur to the Rezang La War Memorial Auditorium in Chushul village, Ladakh, opening the gates for soldiers as well as locals to witness the war epic on the big screen on the 22nd November.
The unprecedented showcase will unfold near the site where the 1962 Battle of Rezang La was fought, coinciding with its 63rd anniversary on November 18.
Calls for a boycott
The Ahir (Yaduvanshi) community across Haryana and neighbouring regions has asked for a boycott of Farhan Akhtar’s war drama as it releases in cinemas today. The community has alleged that the film against the backdrop of the 1962 conflict between India and China distorts facts and historical events.
The Delhi High Court however had allowed the film to have a theatrical release amid the controversy.
Sanyukt Ahir Regiment Morcha and others, who claim to be related to the soldiers who fought in the 1962 Battle of Rezang La, filed two separate petitions in Punjab and Haryana high court and Delhi high Court.
What The Delhi High Court said
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday gave its green signal to the release of Farhan Akhtar starrer movie “ 120 Bahadur” on November 21, disposing of a plea challenging its CBFC certification on the ground that it distorts historical facts.
The high court passed the order after noting that it is too late to change the name and release date of the film and make changes at the last moment and that the producers have mentioned the names of the soldiers at the end of the movie in the form of a special tribute.
A bench of justices Prathiba M Singh and Shail Jain disposed of the petition after the counsel for the petitioner said it is acceptable if the title of the film is not changed and all the names are added at the end of the movie.
