Veere Di Wedding producer Ekta Kapoor is not happy about the double standards that exist in Indian society. The
trailer for the film
, featuring actresses Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker,
Sonam Kapoor
and Shikha Tilsania, sparkles with a chic splendour. But Ekta is confused by the different standards expected of men and women in our patriarchal society. [caption id=“attachment_4354405” align=“alignnone” width=“825”]

an interview
with Mumbai Mirror, Ekta reveals the reason she chose Veere Di Wedding over two other story ideas pitched by co-producer Rhea Kapoor (Sonam’s sister) was because it wasn’t what you’d call a “typical inspiring movie.” “When four girlfriends get together, this is the way they’d act and react. I guess people are not used to girls discussing boys, drinking and having fun on screen so they’re flummoxed. It was cool for boys to discuss girls in Pyaar Ka Punchnama but when the gender changes, it becomes a dysfunctional, feminist film. If that’s the way it’s perceived, so be it. I know men going “aah” will watch the film, and the women going “oh” will definitely watch it too,” she said.

After previously opting out of the project due to financial problems stemming from flops and piracy issues, Ekta returned only after assurances that the film would be “made only by the girls.” Ekta also spoke of her upcoming collaborations with Bareilly Ki Barfi director, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari — one which she’ll be helming and the other, which she’ll mentor. Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Veere Di Wedding will release on 1 June. The romantic comedy is presented by Ekta’s home banner Balaji Motion Pictures. With inputs from IANS
