New Delhi: A day after a 19-year-old biker lost his life in police firing, traffic police today issued an advisory saying that motorcycle riders performing stunts will now be slapped with criminal charges as they endanger others’ safety. “Incidences of performing stunts by motorcycle riders and indulging in serious traffic violations are illegal and reprehensible. Delhi Police will initiate criminal action against any person indulging in such nuisance and aggressive behaviour,” the advisory said. Karan Pandey was killed and another youth injured when police opened fire during an attempt to stop a large group of bikers from performing dangerous stunts yesterday. Meanwhile, as per NHRC guidelines, a medical board consisting three doctors conducted the post mortem on Karan’s body at Maulana Azad Medical College here today. Karan had received a bullet on the lower back portion of his body. Taking probe forward in the case, in which an FIR has been lodged at Parliament Street police station naming Karan, his friend Puneet — who was riding the bike and was also injured in the incident — and other unidentified bikers, police have intensified the search for other stunt bikers who were present at the time of the incident. “We are trying to find out the others who were present with Karan and Puneet at the time of the incident. Around 150 bikers were present on Ashoka Road when the incident took place. “They have been booked for rioting, obstructing a public servant from performing his duty and causing damage to public property as they damaged a PCR van and injured our policemen and their arrest is important for us,” said a police officer. The officer also said that once Puneet is discharged from the hospital, he too will be called for questioning and he may face arrest. A magisterial inquiry is also on the cards in this case. Police have collected the CCTV footage of three cameras of Le Meridian hotel while video footage from two CCTVs at the gate of Shangri-La hotel has also been collected. However, there is no footage of the incident in which the bikers pelted stones and the cops opening fire at them, police said. Earlier, during the ongoing checking drive against errant bikers, police checked 860 two-wheelers out of which 59 were fined and 10 were impounded by cops in New Delhi area. PTI
