The internet is buzzing with videos of the ice bucket challenge. From Mark Zuckerberg to Bill Gates and Satya Nadella–the biggest corporate names have decided to take up the challengeto raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the lethal neurodegenerative disorder also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
A total of $22.9 million has already been raised , which is 12 times the amount raised last year, according to the ALS.
And the ice-bucket fever has caught up in India too. Among the Bollywood stars,Bipasha Basu and Riteish Deshmukh took up the challenge and in turn, dared friendsAkshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Siddharth Malhotra.
Even Indian Tennis player Rohan Bopanna, took up the challenge and nominated the Bengaluru Football Club along with actor Rahul Bose.Later, Bengaluru FC completed their challenge in a group, and nominated star shuttler Ashwini Ponappa, Tennis ace Sania Mirza and cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
But what happened to our businessmen?
According to an Economic Times report, nearly 10 executives of SPAG, a private company in Gurgaon took part in the ice bucket challenge on Tuesday. Shivani Gupta, founder of SPAG told ET, that the company will donate over $2,000 for ALS association.
So will Sachin and Binny Bansal of Flipkart also douse themselves with a bucket of ice water, given Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, took the challengeon stage at the Amazon meeting in Seattle on Friday? Will otherbusiness leaders like Anand Mahindra, Infosys’ Vishal Sikka or Biocon’s Kiran Mazumdar Shaw take up the challenge? Watch this space.
