Mumbai: The Sensex today hit a new life-time high helping the BSE today create history. The market valuation of all BSE-listed firms today crossed Rs 100 lakh crore. At 11:35 am, the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies stood at Rs 100,06,925 crore.

In 2014 so far the market capitalization on the BSE surged by whopping Rs 30 lakh crore. This was the second biggest gain in market capitalization. Earlier in 2007 the total market capitalization of the BSE rose by Rs 35.45 lakh crore to Rs 71.70 lakh crore.

In terms of the US dollar, the total market valuation of BSE-listed companies has surged to $1.614 trillion at the current rate of 61.97 against US dollar.

The Sensex has gained 7579.89 points, or 35.80 percent so far this year. The broader markets have outperformed the benchmark indice with the BSE Mid-cap index gaining 53.80 percent and the Small-cap indices rising 73.24 percent.

Among sectoral indices, consumer durables led the rally with gains of 65.82 percent, followed by bankex which rose 63.54 percent. Other gainers were capital goods +59.77 percent, auto +56.54 percent and health-care +50.48 percent.

Experts said expectations of more reforms by the Narendra Modi-led government and a rate cut by the RBI has helped markets scale new heights.

There are now 20 companies whose market capitalisation have crossed Rs 1 lakh crore namely TCS, ONGC, RIL, ITC, Infosys, HDFC Bank, Coal India, SBI, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma, HDFC, HUL, L&T, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, Wipro, NTPC, HCL Tech, Axis Bank and Maruti Suzuki.

Outsourcing giant TCS is the most valued Indian company with a market cap of Rs 5.2 lakh crore.

Marketmen said Indian markets are also making merry, helped by smart foreign fund inflows.

Since the beginning of this year, foreign portfolios/institutional investors have infused a net amount of Rs 95,006 crore into the equities while mutual funds have invested a net of Rs 15,362 crore into the equity markets so far in 2014.
