Former Infosys chief financial officer and director V Balakrishnan, who is now contesting on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket from the Bangalore Central constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, has made it clear that he will not fight against Nandan Nilekani, who will be contesting elections from South Bangalore. Reason: the latter is his friend and former colleague.
The world cloud above, created from his interview with CNBC-TV18, shows what Balakrishnan’s message in primarily about. It is AAP’s stock formula of clean politics, efficientgovernance, clean capitalismand transparency. Unlike Nilekani, who is fighting as a local man and proud Bangalorean, Bala has no roadmap for his city.
Bala has also refrained from shedding light on the party’s economic agenda.Talking about AAP’s populist measures such as power and water subsidies in New Delhi, Balakrishnan said one cannot rule out the use of populist measures by political parties as a huge portion of India’s population is still below the poverty line.
“You need to have a balance in the economy where not only you need to have capitalistic policies but also ensure that people below the poverty line get their due,” he said, without giving any details on what these policies were.
The word cloud suggests that Bala is currently focused on popularising the AAP brand without investing it with too much detail. The words that stick out from the cloud are what the AAP has beencapitalisingon for a while - people, clean, change, Kejriwal and governance.
In an earlier interview with CNBC-TV18 last month, Balakrishnan had reiterated that policies must be implemented in a transparent manner and that clean and effective government will be top priority for his party.
However, the people of Bangalore Central will want Bala to go beyond motherhood statements if they are to vote for him.
