The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), widely tipped to form the next government, finally released its election manifesto on Monday, in which it promises a massive emphasis on reviving India’s creaking infrastructure with plans to build 100 new cities, a high-speed rail network, and a 10-year-plan to roll out low-cost housing to every Indian family.
Firstbiz created a word cloud of the BJP’s economic manifesto to check what are the most-used words. What we found is that the top topics were clearly “development, technology, infrastructure and energy”.
Robust physical and social infrastructure, inclusive and sustainable development, quality life in villages and cities with the promise of basic amenities for all are the key themes that emerge from the BJP’s manifesto.
The party promises to empower citizens through health, education, job creation and ensuring a basic level of infrastructure to all -home, electricity, water, toilets and access.
The party believes boosting agriculture, rural development and poverty alleviation go hand in hand, which is why a major thrust area for rural development is improving village level infrastructure in terms of roads, potable water, education, health, supply chain, electricity, broadband, job creation, security in rural areas and linkage to markets.
Urbanisation is another big theme of its development agenda and urban development will be based on concepts like twin cities and satellite towns.
Another big theme is technology and e-governance.
BJP wants to use technology for scientific, strategic and long term town planning - including GIS (geographic information systems)-based mapping as well as use information techology (IT) to to deliver low cost quality education to specially-abled students ‘in-home’ - through e-learning.
" The common thread is the wire and wave of technology – maximum application of technology for making governance easy, economical and effective," the party said in its manifesto.
Litte wonder that the party will provide tax incentives for investments in research and development, geared towards indigenisation of technology and innovation. Another big focus is building world class, regional centres of excellence of scientific research in the field of nanotechnology, material sciences, thorium technology and brain research.
Technology transfer in defence manufacturing will be strongly encourage, according to the manifesto.
When it comes to governance, the BJP will provide state governments with assistance to modernise their respective police forces and equip them with the latest technology, the manifesto promised.
