BJP, Congress, AAP manifestos will be out soon: Here's what to expect

The much-talked-about BJP manifesto will only be released after the Congress reveals its agenda for the Lok Sabha polls on 26 March. The Aam Aadmi Party’s manifesto is also expected to be released shortly.

What to expect from the Congress manifesto

The Congress manifesto is likely to promise new rights-based laws for health and employment generation, according to a_PTI_ report. The manifesto has been prepared after “exhaustive consultations” with different stakeholders, including through the direct interaction of a number of groups with Rahul Gandhi. With the party making the rights-based legislation like MGNREGA, Food Security and RTI its key campaign themes, the Congress is expected to stress on the health and employment sectors as its major planks for the upcoming polls.

The party is also aiming at introducing some kind of affirmative action in the private sector given that the government jobs are drying up in the post-liberalisation period. The poll document is likely to unveil the party’s goal to create 100 million new jobs for the youth by 2020.Rahul’s push to provide some kind of minimum financial security for the 70 crore people who occupy the layer between middle class and those falling below poverty line will also find concrete formulation in the manifesto.

What to expect from the BJP manifesto:

Sources within the BJP told _CNBC-TV18 t_hat the party will focus on next generation reforms, manufacturing and infrastructure and will look to attracting international and domestic investments as well as ensuring stability of the Indian rupee.

As part of its infrastructure push, the party will focus on creating 100 modern cities which will include Naxal areas as well. The BJP wants to start a super fast train on 20 of the busiest routes in India.

Banking reforms will form a large part of its economic agenda, especially PSU reforms, sources told CNBC-TV18.

The party also wants to merge small banks in order to create large world-class banks.

As far as FDI in multi-brand retail is concerned, the BJP is still opposed to the policy.

AAP’s manifesto:

AAP’s manifesto will focus on decriminalising gay sex and disqualifying MPs and MLAs charged with gender-related violence, said a recent report in the Hindustan Times. The report said the AAP will also be looking at creating stricter laws against sex-selective abortions and will focus on recognition of madrassa degrees by universities.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The manifesto will also look into the welfare of minorities and a party leader told the newspaper that ghettoisation of Muslims in towns and cities is a major concern.

For most political observers, the big question as far as the AAP is concerned will be centred around economic policy.

Another report in the Economic Times says AAP is likely to include speedy investigation of gas and coal scams, combating prise rise, curbing the black market, cutting down on middle-men and ensuring long-term investments in infrastructure and services as part of its economic agenda.

In the past too the party has reiterated that it was against corruption, monopoly of resources and crony capitalism.
