RBI to issue new Rs 5 coins on 150th birth anniversary of Motilal Nehru

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank will soon put into circulation new five rupee coins to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Motilal Nehru.

The obverse of the coin will bear the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “Satyamev Jayate” inscribed below.

It will be flanked on the left periphery with the word “Bharat” in Devnagri script and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English.

On the reverse of the coin, its face will bear the picture of Motilal Nehru in the centre with inscription 150th Birth Anniversary of Motilal Nehru in Devnagri script as well as English.

The year “2012” shall be inscribed below the picture of Motilal Nehru, RBI said.

“The Government has minted the coins which the Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation,” it said in a notification today.

RBI further said the existing coins of this denomination shall also continue to be a legal tender.
