Govt says no proposal to bring out white paper on eco reforms

Govt says no proposal to bring out white paper on eco reforms

New Delhi: The government today said there is no proposal to bring out white paper on economic reforms as it is an ongoing process and its status is indicated from time to time through various policy statements.

“The is no proposal at present to bring out white paper in economic reforms,” Minister of State for Planning Ashwini Kumar said in a written response in the Lok Sabha.

Asked if the government has proposed to bring white paper on economic reforms in view of the prevailing economic situation in the country during the 12th plan period, he said, “no”.

Kumar said the economic reforms are an ongoing process and the government has been indicating their status and pace of through annual Economic Survey, Budget and various policy statements from time to time.

Presenting the Union Budget for 2012-13 in March, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the government proposes to move various legislative Bills related to financial sector reforms.

He said the government proposed to move the following Bills in the current session: Micro Finance Institutions (Development and Regulation), National Housing Bank (Amendment), Small Industries Development Bank of India (Amendment), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Amendment), Regional Rural Banks (Amendment), Indian Stamp (Amendment) and Public Debt Management Agency of India.

Mukherjee said government has received recommendations of the Standing Committee on Finance regarding three Bills. They are ‘Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill 2011’, ‘The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2011’ and ‘The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill 2008’.
