State-run Coal India (CIL) today handed over a Rs 5,400 crore dividend cheque to the government for the ongoing fiscal.

**New Delhi:**State-run Coal India (CIL)today handed over a Rs 5,400 crore dividend cheque to thegovernment for the ongoing fiscal.

“CIL presented Rs 5,400.49 crore as dividend to theGovernment for the year 2011-12,” an official statement said.The acting Chairman and Managing Director of CIL ZohraChatterji presented the dividend cheque to the Coal MinisterSriprakash Jaiswal here, it said.

“CIL has made a substantial profit of Rs 10,774.79 croreduring 2011-12, till December 2011. It declared total interimdividend of Rs 6,000.55 crore for the period with turnover ofabout Rs 42,996.44 crore,” it added.

Earlier, the PSU had proposed to pay a dividend of Rs5,684.73 crore to the government for 2011-12.Coal India had paid a dividend of Rs 2,217 crore to thegovernment for fiscal 2010-11, Rs 2,210 crore for 2009-10

and Rs 1,705 crore for 2008-09.
