ZyXEL Communications, a broadband access solutions provider, has unveiled its first Green Wireless Routers – the Wireless N Gigabit Router series – NBG460N and NBG420N. Featuring the customisable wireless scheduler, the NBG460N and NBG420N can be configured to be wireless enabled/disabled depending on one’s wireless usage schedule. Additionally, the routers are equipped with an energy-saving benefit.
Power consumption and other green issues are fast becoming the IT industry’s biggest challenge (In-Stat, 2008). “An environment-friendly and energy-saving product has become an asset on the international marketplace,” said Dr Wesley Chen, senior manager of ZyXEL Network Connectivity Product Division. “ZyXEL always tries to make its operations comply with the three EU directives - WEEE, RoHS to better the environment-friendliness of its products. The NBG460N and NBG420N will be the first series of ZyXEL’s ongoing Green product portfolio”.
Offering the extreme 8x faster application date throughput (up to 300 Mbps) and 5x wider coverage than legacy 802.11b/g standard, the 802.11n Draft 2.0 technology represents innovation in wireless solutions. With this technology, NBG460N and NBG420N wireless broadband routers will provide reliable throughput and coverage to support triple-play applications such as online gaming and HD streaming at home and the mission-critical applications for the SOHO users.
With the ZyXEL Media Bandwidth Management (MBM v2), NBG460N and NBG420N aid bandwidth control for the priority to support video streams or VoIP. The inbuilt Wi-Fi Protective Setup (WPS) delivers the security standard through a wireless security set-up. For remote access, NBG460N and NBG420N support 2 IPSec VPN tunnels from remote site to central server to ensure security transmission. For optimal cover and elimination of dead zone, three removable dipole antennas are available to users.
