Web18 Announces Genius Of The Web Awards

The first Genius of the Web awards organised by Web18, a part of the Network18 group, were announced on October 18th, at ITC Grand Central, Parel. Genius of the Web Awards is a series of awards in multiple categories that recognise achievements by companies that have done commendable work in the online space.

The awards had close to 86 nominations across 19 categories.

“As the Indian Internet community grows, Web18 is committed to recognise the new and pioneering efforts that different organisations are putting into getting new technologies and content online. The Web, more than any other media is a collaborative, nimble and explosive space and through Genius of the Web, it would be our privilege to honour all those men and women behind the success stories,” said Surya Mantha, CEO, Web18.

Yahoo.co.in, Shaadi.com and Orkut.com were announced the winners of Best Portal overall, Best Matrimonial portal and Best Social Networking website respectively.

Yahoo India won the special User’s Choice Award, as well as the Best E-Commerce Site (Online Gaming); Gmail emerged as the Best Email Service Provider (Consumer); and Indiatimes as the Best Email Service Provider (Business).

Other winners include Best Airlines – Jet Airways; Best Banking – ICICI Bank; Best Brokers – ICICI Direct; Best Business ISP and Best Consumer ISP Broadband – Bharti Airtel; Best Education – ‘Education Times’; Best Utility – Rel.co.in; Best Insurance – LIC India and Best Hotels Site – Taj Hotels.
