Web Experience Not Meeting Expectations Of Indian Tablet Users: Survey

Compuware Corporation, the technology performance company, has published the findings of a new survey that reveals a significant portion of India’s tablet consumers’ expectations are not being met as the result of poor website performance.

Compuware commissioned the first survey of tablet users’ web performance expectations in India. The study surveyed more than 200 end users who accessed the Internet in India on a tablet in the past six months. The survey report titled, “Engaging the Tablet User: What they Expect from Web Sites” reveals that tablet users’ expectations in India are not being met, with a majority of users experiencing slow or unreliable web and application performance.

Consumers and enterprises have embraced tablets in large numbers for everything from web browsing and social networking to mission-critical business applications that increase employee productivity and drive revenue. Unfortunately, quality web experiences for tablet users are few and far between. Tablet users expect quick, anytime transactions that work flawlessly every time, but as the survey findings illustrate, that’s not what they’re experiencing.

The key survey findings state that Tablet users’ web experience expectations are high. Almost 75 percent of tablet users expect a web site to load in two seconds or less. Whereas more than 82 percent of tablet users expect web sites to load just as quickly, or quicker, than on a desktop/laptop computer.

It was also observed that web site issues are common for tablet users. The survey revealed that six out of 10 tablet users have experienced web site problems. Among those who have experienced a problem, slow load times were the most frequently cited issue (65 percent), followed by site crashes (48 percent), problems with site functions (43 percent) and issues with site format (37 percent).

Another finding also stated that poor web experiences on tablets impact the bottom line. It was observed that more than 62 percent of tablet users retry a web site only once or twice if it did not work initially. A bad web-site experience also drives 53 percent of tablet users to competitive web sites; 40 percent are less likely to visit the problematic web site on any platform; and 36 percent are less likely to purchase from that company.

“The use of tablets is exploding and as consumer adoption of mobile continues to grow exponentially. However, companies in India are failing to meet tablet users’ web experience expectations missing an opportunities to increase employee productivity and drive revenue as a result. Companies need to understand how their customers are using their sites in order to capitalise on every single interaction and application usage.” said Neeraj Dotel, Managing Director, Compuware India.
