Videoconferencing Market Expected To Touch $2.6 Bn In 2011

International Data Corporation (IDC) has announced the launch of the Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence QView, covering the growing enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market. The new QView will provide quarterly market size and vendor share data for key market technologies.

The third quarter of 2011 (3Q11) delivered strong results for the enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market with revenue growing 24.3% year over year to $680.4 million. The single-codec telepresence segment of the market grew 36.6% year over year to $379.7 million and now accounts for 55.8% of the total market.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

“Only recently have enterprise networks and videoconferencing technology, epitomised by HD and telepresence systems, been capable of delivering collaboration experiences worthy of initiating a video session, versus having a conference call or hopping on a plane,” said Rich Costello, senior analyst, Enterprise Communications Infrastructure, at IDC. “IDC expects major revenue growth in this market to continue over the next five years, bolstered by a significant impact from unified communications, collaboration applications, telepresence systems, and desktop and mobile devices supporting video,” said Costello.

“The enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market continues to grow rapidly as enterprise adoption of video collaboration spreads. The enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market is currently one of the fastest growing large networking markets with more than 20% year-over-year growth in three of the last four quarters,” said Petr Jirovský, senior research analyst, Worldwide Networking Trackers Research.

Key Vendor Updates:

  • Cisco’s 3Q11 results beat the overall market with 32.5% year-over-year growth. Cisco remains the clear market leader and now holds 51.6% of the market, which is an improvement over the 50.4% in 2Q11 and 48.4% in 3Q10.

  • Polycom’s revenue increased 19.4% in 3Q11, which is consistent with Polycom’s longer term growth. Polycom has seen 19-26% year-over-year increases in its revenue every quarter since 1Q10.

IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence QView provides total market size and vendor share data in an easy-to-use Excel Pivot Table format. The overall market is further segmented by product type (Immersive Telepresence, Telepresence, Personal Videoconferencing, Video MCU, Other), form factor (End-point, Infrastructure), and screen definition (High Definition, Standard Definition). Measurement for the enterprise videoconferencing and telepresence market is provided in factory revenue and unit shipments.
