Sun Microsystems has announced the formation of a new ‘Emerging Markets’ sales geography to drive expansion and sales coverage across growing markets in South and Eastern Europe, Latin America, India and Greater China. The new ‘Emerging Markets’ region will be led by Denis Heraud, Sun’s senior vice president of Asia Pacific. Heraud will take on an expanded charter to lead the united ‘Emerging Markets’ territory.
In conjunction with the formation of the ‘Emerging Markets’ region, Sun has also announced a series of organisational leadership changes to accommodate the new sales geographic coverage model within and outside India. Effective July 1, 2008 – the beginning of the company’s fiscal year 2009 – Sun Microsystems announced the promotion of Anil Valluri, to the role of GEM (Geographically Established Market) vice president and managing director, India. This announcement follows the promotion of Bhaskar Pramanik, president, India GEM, Sun Microsystems to VP, Global Volume Business, based out of Sun Microsystems corporate headquarters at Menlo Park in California. Pramanik’s new role will focus on building and growing Sun’s volume business across the world.
Pramanik has been the face of Sun since its entry into India way back in 1997. Under his able leadership and direction, Sun India has not only built its reputation as one of the most respected and successful technology companies in the country, but is also one of the key geographies for Sun Microsystems.
Valluri has been with Sun Microsystems India for over nine years now. He joined in 1999 to build and lead the Systems Engineering function for India, following more than a decade spent at DCM Data Products and DEC. Since then, he has covered many different functions, including leading the Client Services Organisation and Services Practice for the India GEM.
According to Valluri, “Sun India has significantly contributed to the overall growth of Sun Microsystems and I am happy to be part of a leadership team spearheading Sun’s business and developments. I look forward to building upon the success established by Sun in India under the leadership of Bhaskar and driving Sun’s further growth in this region”.
“The formation of Emerging Markets region, and Sun India’s inclusion in that region, will endow us with the resources and support necessary to promote growth in FY09 and give us an opportunity to leverage the tremendous potential found in these key emerging markets and communities around the world,” he further added.
