STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
  1. Documents To Go

Pdanet has been one of the most popular softwares for Windows Mobile phones, Palm OS phones and iPhones. Made by June fabrics, it is now available for the Android OS as well. PdaNet provides complete Internet access to your PC, laptop or netbook and uses the phone like a modem. It supports both USB Tether and Bluetooth DUN.

PdaNet does NOT require root access or hacking your phone’s firmware in order to work. It is just a regular Android application that works on all Android phones except the version below Android 1.7. Tethering is fast, secure and the USB mode also charges your phone at the same time. The phone can connect to 3G data, WiFi, or even through VPN and PdaNet will then share the connection with your computer. This application is available for free for 30 days and once the trial expires, you can continue using PdaNet for free. However, the free edition blocks secure websites.

3) Gist
Gist
Price - Free

Gist is an Android application just like Facebook, except that it’s like a complete business profile for your contacts, including updates from social networks like Facebook and Twitter, mentions in the news and email correspondence across inboxes. The user interface is awesome, sluggish sometimes, but that could be due to issues with the connection. This Android application gives you on-the-go access to information about your professional network with these features:

It probably looks like Linkedin with an android application, but this is works way better on the social networking aspect and also manages your contacts well. The best thing about the application is that it’s absolutely free and works on all versions of Android.

4) Layar
Layar
Price - Free

Layar is an “augmented reality browser” that uses a combination of the phone’s camera, compass and GPS data to identify the user’s location and field of view, retrieve data based on those geographical coordinate and overlay that data over the camera view. The Layar Reality Browser shows what is around you by displaying real time digital information on top of the real world, as seen through the camera of your mobile phone.

Pune already has Layar, using which you can explore the city’s landmarks and experience multiple facets of this augmented reality. There are loads of add-on applications that can be downloaded from the Android Market, which work in tandem with Layar as its platform, such as Tweeps Around. With Cisco already investing in the architecture stating it’s the ‘future of shopping’ and BMW considering it the ‘future of car repair,’ it’s just a matter of time until augmented reality catches on in the enterprise.

5) Techtalk System Monitor
MailDover LLC
Price - Available in Free and Pro Version ($2.99 or Rs.140)

Techtalk System Monitor allows the user to discover and monitor any system via SNMP, provided that it has a publicly available IP address and an SNMP agent up and running with a known SNMP port and community password. Once the IP address, SNMP community string and port are configured correctly, clicking ‘Discover’ will save the settings and connect to the target SNMP agent using the provided information, and collect complete inventory of the system. Once completed, the appropriate information collected will show up in different Techtalk System Monitor tabs.

24

Once discovered, the system can be continuously monitored to make sure it stays healthy. Any problems encountered, such as connection getting disconnected or disk running out of space, will trigger ‘alarm’ in the Techtalk System Monitor. This would show up by highlighting the tab associated with the problem, and also highlighting in red text the specific components with the problem. The ‘monitoring’ phase consists of lightweight SNMP queries and runs in the background, without interfering with the other operations of the Techtalk System Monitor or your phone. It comes with a 30 day trial, after which it will still connect to the SNMP agent but will keep disconnecting at intervals.
