Telesoft Launches Location-Based Services Solution In India

UK-based Telesoft Technologies has announced the availability in India of its flagship product, HINTON Locator passive monitoring probe, which addresses the fast growing location-based services and subscriber tracking applications market. Connecting to any mobile network, it gives OEMs and System Integrators the location-related signaling information that enables them to provide subscribers with sophisticated, geographically targeted applications. Typical applications include location-based advertising, E911 services, info-point services and navigation aids.

Andy Evripides, sales and marketing director, Telesoft Technologies, said, “India is one of the most vibrant economies in the world today and its telecom infrastructure and huge population present exciting opportunities to telecom operators. However, location-based services are yet to make a perceptible mark in this industry. Telesoft Technologies has lots of experience in the field of network monitoring and mobile signaling through its various products and we plan to proactively prepare the Indian telecom industry for this cutting-edge technology.”

Telesoft Technologies sees huge potential for Location-Based Services (LBS) in the Indian market and wants to showcase its capabilities to the Indian telecom industry in this key area. Geographical location of mobile subscribers has become an important topic with profound implications for a wide range of applications, known generically as Location-Based Services (LBS). Alongside the commercial opportunity for LBS applications, legal and social obligations – such as lawful interception and intelligence-related data acquisition, and public emergency services – also depend on the acquisition of subscribers’ geographical location information. These services can be extremely valuable, both for gathering intelligence and for the support of value added services (VAS).

Telesoft has recently announced the opening of its telecom laboratory in India to assist integration and roll out of new partner products in the region. The lab has Telesoft’s complete range of products allowing local customers to quickly integrate and test software applications and ensure network compatibility in real world conditions.

Connecting to the cellular radio access network, the HINTON Locator outputs location data to pinpoint a subscribers’ position. Location accuracy varies depending on the density of base-stations and interference from tall buildings and other objects. Typical results, in an urban area, derive location data to 100-500M via triangulation of data from multiple base-stations. This network-based methodology avoids the need for any special handset capability, allowing location-based services to be offered to all subscribers, even those with the most basic mobile handsets.

The highly flexible location API can filter by location area, cell ID, subscriber mobile number etc allowing accurate targeting of subscribers for the extraction of all location-related signalling information used during network operation. The functionality of the HINTON Locator is also being made available within the HINTON Interceptor product, used in homeland security and intelligence applications for signals intelligence gathering.
