UNIX software technology provider SCO has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat, to form a new venture called Me Inc. India. The JV will focus on harnessing Me Inc. mobile technologies to offer mobile enterprise solutions in the cities and to help bridge the digital divide in the rural areas of the state.
The mobility solutions form Me. Inc will enable enterprises to extend existing applications and data to smart phones and other mobile devices and enhance the productivity and performance of the handheld devices. The new entity will also engage in the development of new high performance mobile solutions.
Commenting on the occasion, Sandy Gupta CTO and GM of the SCO Group said, “With a profusion of new and smarter mobile devices entering the market, an enterprise is no longer limited by physical space constraints. Devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs now allow real-time direct access to corporate networks.
“The Me Inc. platform enables business transactions from even remote locations and supports field force automation through PDAs, laptops, mobile phones and tablet PCs, thus creating a truly mobilized workforce,” added Gupta.
Me Inc is expected to start the marketing, sales and distribution of their mobile enterprise solutions in India by April this year.
