Schneider Electric announced the launch of ChillRack, the new air conditioned IT server cabinet from APW President at Acrex, India, 2012.The ChillRack facilitates the installation and fault-free maintenance of sensitive electronic equipment even in harsh environments where dust, dirt and varying heat levels are common – as in factories, retail outlets, remote offices, warehouses and workspaces in arid locations. This innovative product is used in areas where room air temperature is not adequate for peak IT electronic equipment efficiency.
ChillRack is a self-contained server cabinet that works on a closed loop cooling system. With the AC unit built into the rack itself, precise delivery of inlet air and immediate capture of warm return air keeps the electronic equipment at optimal temperature. The high efficiency rack-mounted AC unit built into the bottom of the cabinet creates a controlled cool micro climate within the rack space. With the addition of an optional APC on-line UPS system, you can also ensure uninterrupted power supply to your equipment.
Also displayed at ACREX were two other innovative Datacentre solutions – the LiquiCool Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx), and COOL WA, a cold aisle solution.
LiquiCool is a water-cooled door that mounts on the back of server cabinets and cools computer equipment exhaust air before it re-enters the Datacentre operating environment. The design elements include a low impedance fin and tube heat exchanger that does not have fans, moving parts or electrical connections, resulting in a dramatic reduction of energy consumption normally required for cooling. LiquiCool can reduce total energy consumption in excess of 60 percent and decrease white space by in excess of 50 percent when compared to conventional PAC / CRAC units.
In the design of the COOL WAY cold aisle containment system, optimally conditioned air is directed to a sealed cold aisle which ensures that the thermal variations within the data centre does not affect the volume of cold air delivered to the front of the IT equipment.
COOL WAY guides the cooled air from the air-conditioning inlet tiles on the raised floor into a sealed cold aisle between the server racks. Equipment inside the racks are cooled as much as required and they then exhaust the heated air into the surrounding room, where it rises to the top. The sealed COOL WAY system prevents the mixing of cool and warm air in the room and it ensures that the air returned to the air-conditioning units is always at a higher temperature.
