SAP has announced the appointment of Peter Gartenberg as Managing Director of SAP India. Alok Goyal will now assume the role of COO. Extending SAP’s commitment to the Indian market, SAP India will be aligned with the company’s largest regional unit EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) under the leadership of José Duarte, President of SAP EMEA + India.
Gartenberg takes over from Steve Watts, Interim President, SAP India. Prior to this role, he was serving as COO, SAP India, since November 2009. He will be responsible for all market-facing activities across the field organisation, overseeing customer operations as well as general management like sales, consulting, partner ecosystem expansion and marketing. With over 23 years of experience, Gartenberg has a record of driving transformations to create customer-centric organisations in India, China, Europe and USA. Gartenberg is a permanent resident of the country and is based in Mumbai since 2000.
“I am delighted to welcome Peter to his new role at SAP India,” said José Duarte, President, SAP EMEA+India. “India is amongst the leading subsidiaries for SAP globally with over 4,300 customers and SAP India is poised for the next phase of growth. With good leadership at the helm, I am confident that the India team will continue to sustain its leading position in the market.”
SAP India will now collaborate with EMEA, to respond rapidly and flexibly to customers’ changing business requirements, optimise growth opportunities, natural trade flows and synergies among the countries. EMEA has a wealth of resources that India can leverage to enhance best practices. With this combination, SAP expects to strengthen its customer focus, and bring innovation for sustainable growth to its customers.
Along with Gartenberg, Goyal will now focus on operational excellence and resource optimisation, in order to ensure that customers derive maximum value from SAP offerings. Goyal previously served as Vice-President, Strategic Accounts, SAP India and has over 15 years of experience in the industry. For the past six years, he has been leading multiple software business operations within SAP. He has also led the company’s engineering benchmarking programs that drive customer satisfaction.
