Riverbed Technology, an IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, has announced that the company’s wide area network (WAN) optimisation solutions now support VMware vSphere 4. By utilising Riverbed WAN optimisation in conjunction with VMware vSphere 4, enterprises are able to rapidly deploy, migrate and protect application workloads running in enterprise private clouds.

Riverbed WAN optimisation technology enhances VMware vSphere 4 environments in several ways. It allows acceleration and optimization of traffic from private clouds built on VMware vSphere 4, thus enabling enterprises to rapidly deploy, migrate and protect cloud-based workloads over the WAN. It facilitates consolidation of applications and servers into the cloud/ data centre while maintaining end-user performance, which enables virtualisation projects with a greater RoI. Finally, it improves backup/ replication times while reducing WAN bandwidth consumption, which enables better data protection in a virtual environment.

Shekar Ayyar, vice president, Infrastructure Alliances, VMware, said, “We are glad to see Riverbed’s support for VMware vSphere 4 as its technology complements the VMware platform to help customers achieve quicker RoI by providing flexible and reliable application acceleration, data replication and back-up services over the WAN.”

“We look forward to working closely with VMware to help bring the benefits of VMware vSphere 4 to organisations worldwide,” said Venugopal Pai, vice president of global alliances at Riverbed. “Organisations of all sizes are feeling pressure, now more than ever, to do more with less. The combination of Riverbed WAN optimisation and VMware vSphere 4 allows organisations to consolidate their technology while accelerating performance.”
