Sumeet Sabharwal, MD, NaviSite India, gives a quick perspective to Biztech2 on the hosted services industry.
What solutions does NaviSite offer?
NaviSite has been active in the IT industry for the past 11 years. It provides hosting services across 16 data centres, including complex managed services, infrastructure outsourcing and application hosting. We host and run all these services.
What are the major issues associated with delivering applications over the data centre?
The hosting industry has invested heavily in infrastructure while simultaneously offering an option of co-location. There are a lot of players in the second category. Primary issues that come up with delivery of applications over the network relate to redundancy and latency and therefore, latest technologies need to be embraced.
What are NaviSite’s specific hosting services?
We have distinct offerings for the SMB and large enterprise segments.
For the SMB market, we have dedicated servers and companies can pay for this on a monthly basis. They can leverage the flexibility of outsourcing their core IT infrastructure. The other offering that we have for the SMB segment is a virtual platform, where there are virtual servers on the cloud leading to easy scalability. We also offer them e-mail and collaboration tools.
For large enterprises, we provide customisation on a large scale such as hosted technology at the data centre, in addition to hosted application delivery.
What is the underlying data centre architecture like?
Our data centre has been designed in such a way that there is a high degree of scalability. We have all the facilities for power back-up in addition to the latest cooling technologies. We have the latest equipment from Cisco deployed at our end.
How has the recession affected this industry?
At this point in time, there is no industry that is recession proof. Business models need to be changed with aggressive steps in the online direction. The underlying infrastructure is becoming increasingly crucial and an asset for value proposition. The key is to have the following features intact – scalability, flexibility, and robustness with cost effectiveness as part of the package.
