Ramesh D. Grover, Founder-Chairman, CMS Group, Passes Away

The founder and Chairman of the CMS Group of companies, passed away late Saturday night in Mumbai.

Ramesh D. Grover, Founder-Chairman, CMS Group, Passes Away

Ramesh D. Grover, one of the early luminaries in establishing India as a global IT powerhouse, and the founder and Chairman of the CMS Group of companies, passed away late Saturday night in Mumbai. He was 66 years old.

Grover started his career with IBM after graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from BITS, Pilani. After 10 years with IBM, he started his own IT Services firm along with two other IBM Executives, to support the machines that IBM left behind after their exit from India. In 1976, he founded this small set-up, ‘Computer Maintenance Services’, commonly known as “CMS”. Ever since, CMS Computers Ltd. has rapidly grown from a maintenance and outsourcing firm to a diversified conglomerate serving the IT and ITES needs of the largest Indian and global enterprises in India, best known for its road traffic signals automation & transport management systems, electronic and security systems, card printing and card personalisation. CMS is also actively engaged in software development & export worldwide through its fully owned subsidiary SYSTIME, with three development centres in Mumbai, Pune & Chennai.

Its subsidiaries include CMS Traffic Systems Ltd provides Intelligent Transport System (ITS) solutions; CMS Energy Management Systems provides energy management and power quality solutions for Utilities (Power Plants, Transmission and distribution), Datacentres, and several industries including Cement, Textile, Steel, Paper, Chemical, and more. Its broadcast division, CMS-NVL, provides turnkey solutions for TV Satellite Channels and their high-end application areas like e-classroom and Telemedicine.

Kaycee Industries, an integral part of CMS Computers Ltd., has been providers of electrical and electronic components, such as Rotary Switches, Rotary Cam Switches, Micro and Toggle Switches, Weather Tight Switches, Breaker Control Switches, Water Meters, Counters and Fuse Fittings.

In e-Governance, CMS is among the few partners for large ICT-based service delivery projects, which are operationalised in more than seven states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal. These run more than 4000 Citizen Service Centres across the country offering various Services to the Indian citizens, such as Ration Card Issuance and Food Grain Management, Health Management (HMIS) Delivery, etc.

In 2008, Grover partnered with the Blackstone Group, one of the world’s largest Private Equity firms and financial advisory services provider, to create CMS Infosystems, an IT & outsourced business services provider focusing on Retail Banks, Insurance, Telecom, Retail, PSU and Government segments.

Ramesh D Grover is survived by his wife, Mrs. Raju Ramesh Grover, son Vishal Grover, and daughter Aarti Grover.
