Plustek, a global image solutions company, has announced the launch and availability of its new scanner Plustek SmartOffice PL2546 in the Indian market. This versatile scanner is feature-rich and bundled with many utility software that can help users scan, edit, store, manage and share documents with complete ease. It is primarily targeted at government offices, institutions, enterprises and distributed branch offices across industry verticals. Considering the high volumes of documents – customary of many Indian offices, Plustek’s SmartOffice Pl2546 aims at efficient document management for enhancing productivity.
One needs to keep record of all papers for reference in future. For example, telecom operators or banks need customers to submit various documents (photocopies of their photo identity cards, address proof such as electricity bills, phone bills etc) to issue new connections or open a new account. All these documents need to be either stored physically or are scanned and stored in a central repository. Plustek SmartOffice PL2546 helps users scan documents and convert them into searchable PDF format before sending them to the repository.
Plustek PL2546 has an automatic document feeder (ADF) that takes 50 sheets at a time and has a heavy duty cycle of up to 1500 sheets per day. It can scan 25 pages per minute (or 46 images per minute) in colour, duplex mode (both sides of a page - front and back).

The improved TWAIN driver of Plustek SmartOffice PL2546 scanner makes scanning as simple as photocopying. The auto detector function of this scanner also allows an auto preview of the scan. It offers high resolution (flatbed, 1200 x 1200 dpi optical resolution) owing to Plustek’s advanced CIS sensor technology, making it ideal for photo scanning. Improved colour accuracy enhances images and produces consistent colours in scan results. Users can choose to scan the documents in black and white mode as well.
When deployed at the front office, SmartOffice PL2546 makes use of its Hotcard BizCard Finder 2.5 utility software that helps it perform the business card (visiting card) recognition function and photo/ document database building for information management purpose. It quickly converts the vital contact information on the visiting card/ business card into searchable digital database that can be easily synchronised between various access devices including PCs and PDAs.
The ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint Plus OCR (optical character recognition) software bundled into this new scanner is versatile enough to batch all scan results pertaining to a task into one single file or individual files as directed. If users want to save the scan result in a desirable Microsoft Office application format—be it word processor, spreadsheet etc,—it can be done easily through OCR software’s advanced settings. The scan results are high in accuracy (users do not have to tally scan results with the original document time and again) and are in editable mode such that they can make required changes. Besides all this, the OCR software recognises as many as 177 different languages making the product global in terms of use.
