Pitney Bowes, one of the leading global providers of mailstream solutions, has signed an MOU with India Post. Under the MOU, Pitney Bowes will set up its network infrastructure to enable Indian postal franking meter users to remotely recharge franking machines without having to physically carry them to a post office. These new generation digital franking meters are state-of-the-art, intelligent and are built upon the proven ‘Postage By Phone’ remote resetting platform.
Digital postage meters powered by ‘Postage By Phone’ offer India Post critical information on customer mail profile that can help the department protect and grow revenue, offer new services, build customer loyalty, and enhance operational efficiency. At the same time, it offers users convenience and cost savings, access discounts and incentives on postal products and services. It also enables new value-added products like, integrated weighing, remote software, rates downloads, remote feature enabling and remote diagnostics.
“Digital meters powered by ‘Postage By Phone’ technology provide a significant step toward improved efficiency and convenience for both India Post and our customers. India Post has shown good foresight in launching the solution in the Indian market”, said Eric-Yves Mahe, president, Asia Pacific and Middle East for Pitney Bowes.
With the availability of digital postal meters powered by ‘Postage By Phone’, businesses and mailers will benefit from the convenience of accurate postage to ensure timely delivery of their mails, remote top-up in the comfort of their offices and usage intelligence for accountability and efficiency.
Most countries declare a specific time frame, varying from 12 months to 36 months, in which the manually charged franking machines are to be replaced. While in India, no such time frame has be declared, given earlier experience and willingness of Indian users to adopt technology solutions, it is expected that this process would take about three years time, since both large users of this services from the banking, insurance and financial services, telecom and utilities and small and medium-sized businesses are expected to benefit from the efficiency and convenience of digital meters.
